The design strategy prioritises the interplay between urban living and nature. The set-back positioning of the existing infill building allows for the creation of a planted entrance courtyard behind a wall and gate enhancing the overall privacy and serenity of the home away from the busy streets of the market area.

The double-height infill building serves as a focal point, embodying the social heart of the home. It facilitates interaction while seamlessly linking to more intimate living areas. The inclusion of a new stair and gallery is a strategic move, enhancing vertical movement and accessibility to the upstairs bedrooms within the refurbished Victorian warehouse. This integration promotes a cohesive flow throughout the living space, marrying modern design with historical architecture.

The design prioritises simplicity and the harmonious integration of elements that emphasise the historical essence of the Victorian warehouse. By selecting a restrained palette, the aesthetic underscores the unique textures inherent in both the original structure and the new additions. The use of red painted steel serves as a striking complement to the warmth of timber, while the implanted greenery introduces a lively natural aspect, enhancing the overall environment.

The concrete floor creates continuity throughout the space, seamlessly linking the indoor and outdoor areas. This design choice reinforces a cohesive flow throughout the property. Large guillotine windows further enhance this connection, inviting ample natural light and offering unobstructed views of the courtyard.

The restoration process carefully addresses the building's fabric, ensuring it meets the modern-day requirements for thermal efficiency and sound insulation. This approach preserves the historical integrity of the warehouse while adapting it for contemporary family living.
