The project creates a cohesive environment out of five individual existing buildings, each contributing its own architectural narrative. Dark Arkitekter led the refurbishment and extensions, focusing on enhancing connectivity through a newly designed central atrium and lift core. This strategic design facilitates smooth circulation, optimising the flow of movement of users both vertically and horizontally.

  • Main Entrance

  • Grensen Elevation

Our role centered on the interior design of the main entrance space, which opens onto Stortorvet square. This area serves as the primary reception and café, forming a welcoming introduction to the entire development. Additionally, our design extends to the upper floors, which host a large meeting center, co-working spaces, and tenant offices.

  • Ground Floor - Entrance Area

Collaboration with the local design team was essential in creating a design that resonates with the existing architectural character. This synergy resulted in a harmonious blend that promotes a unique user experience, respecting the history while providing modern functionality. The intent is to ensure that each space not only serves its purpose but enhances the overall experience of the development.

  • Central Atrium

  • 3rd Floor Hub - East to West

The 3rd Floor serves as an integrated hub, incorporating the five existing buildings linked through the new central atrium. The layout promotes collaboration and productivity, with two primary communal areas strategically located. To the east, the Meeting Centre in Stortorvet 7 functions as a vibrant space for gatherings and events, highlighted by a central breakout zone that includes a café and a variety of informal work settings. This design fosters interaction and creativity, enhanced by a raised timber platform that allows access to an external terrace with views of Stortorvet square.

Meanwhile, the quiet co-working space in Mellombyggnet to the west provides a serene environment for focused work, balancing the dynamic atmosphere of the Meeting Centre. Together, these spaces create a harmonious blend of collaborative and individual settings, catering to a diverse range of work styles and needs.

“Studio Sutton have shown excellent attention to detail, organisational skills and energy to design and deliver a contemporary design concept which represents our global brand identity, whilst sensitively responding to the unique character of the existing buildings. They have forged strong working relationships with the members of the international design and construction teams.”
